Foundation Board

Judith has an extensive background in health care as a clinician, educator, and administrator and served as CEO of St. Mary’s Hospital, Camrose from 1998 – 2006. Her education includes a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a Master in Business Administration, and a Certified Health Executive designation.

Professionally Judith was a surveyor for Accreditation Canada, member and chair of the Professional Conduct Committee for the Saskatchewan and Alberta Registered Nurses’ Associations, member of a Practice Review Panel for the Government of Alberta Department of Education and member of the Nursing Education Program Approval Board for Alberta. Volunteer activities include serving on the boards of the Camrose Rose City Curling Club, Camrose Golf Course, Continental Cup 2008, and the La Salle Women’s Housing Society, Edmonton.

Agnes first joined St. Mary’s Hospital, Camrose Foundation Board in 2009. She is a retired registered nurse following an extensive and varied career.

She was re-elected to Camrose City Council in October 2021. Agnes is a past member of the Board of Governors, University of Alberta and University of Alberta Senate, and the Mentorship Team of the Peter Lougheed Leadership College, University of Alberta. Agnes is chair of the Lougheed Performing Arts Centre Board of Governors, past chair of the Camrose Lutheran College Corporation, and serves on numerous other committees and boards. Was co-founder of the Grateful Grannies, a Grandmothers to Grandmothers group of the Stephen Lewis Foundation. Agnes and her husband James reside in Camrose. They have 2 daughters and one grandchild.

Joy worked as a registered nurse in a variety of positions in Ontario. She has a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Masters in Education. When she and her husband moved back to Alberta in 1999 she worked as Family Consultant. At this time her husband and she became “adoptive grandparents” to two wonderful girls who have enriched their lives.

Joy has always felt drawn to be with the dying. During her career she worked with children who were facing death and their families. Joy currently is the Volunteer Coordinator for the Hospice Society of Camrose and District where she works with very compassionate volunteers who continues to help people live as fully as possible while they are facing the probability of dying.

Mike graduated from U of A in 1978 with a Bachelor of Education degree. Upon graduation he and his wife Jane moved to Whitecourt, Alberta where they taught at St. Joseph’s Catholic School until 1987. After completing a Graduate Diploma in Educational Administration, they moved to Castor, Alberta where he was Principal of Theresetta Catholic School from 1988 until 2008. While in Castor Mike was on Our Lady of The Rosary Hospital Board.

In 2008 when the Regional Health Authorities were abolished Mike was a member of the group that initiated the formation of Covenant Health as the governing authority for Catholic Hospitals in the Province. He also participated on the transition team that developed the Mission, Vision and Values of Covenant Health. Since 2009 Mike has served on the Covenant Health Quality and Service Delivery Committee and in 2010 he was appointed as a Director of Catholic Health of Alberta. In 2010 Mike and Jane moved to an acreage in the Duhamel area. They have four adult children. Mike has been a member of St. Mary’s Community and Foundation Boards since April 2012

Carolyn Andersen is a retired nurse, who holds a certificate in public health. Her career in nursing gave her experience in acute care and public health nursing. She was a Public Health Manager for East Central Health and retired in 2005 after serving for 10 years in positions of management for public health, home care and rehabilitation. Following retirement she contracted her services as a health care consultant.

Carolyn has served in executive and board positions for several organizations. Notable services include the Bethany Care Group, Camrose Association for Community Living, 

Rotary Daybreak Club, Grateful Grannies and Messiah Lutheran Church.

Marcia and her husband Harvey moved into Camrose in 2013 having lived in the Donalda/Meeting Creek area for many years. She has extensive board involvement through church boards both local and national as well as nine years on the board of Bethany Care Centers in Camrose. Trained as a social worker, she worked in adoption and foster care, mental health and geriatrics. She served as the initial social worker with the Crossroads Day Program, Camrose, at it's interception.

Later she went to work for the health region to establish and manage the home support program in the East Central Health Unit. In the late 1990's until 2003 she managed Home Care Programs in the Eastern region. Since retiring in 2003 she has been busy with family, particularly grandchildren and now great grandchildren. She looks forward to serving her third term on the St. Mary's Hospital, Camrose Foundation Board.

Darren was born in Camrose and grew up on a farm at Strome. Upon completion of high school he attended Briercrest Bible College, then spent the following two years at Camrose Lutheran College. It was there he completed a two year program transferable to the University of Alberta Faculty of Business.

After graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree from the U of A, he spent five and a half years in banking. This took him to numerous Branches across the Province of Alberta. The frequent moves, while also continuing to help out on the farm, led him to look at other employment alternatives. This led to a career as a Public Practice Accountant with Tien Rostad Chartered Accountants in Camrose. It was during this time that he obtained his Certified General Accountants (CGA) accounting designation. An opportunity to work for the City of Camrose became available in 2006 and since then Darren has been employed in the Financial Services area. He is currently the Director of Accounting and Finance.

Volunteering is important to Darren. He has been a church pianist/organist for over 35 years, playing for many weddings and funerals, and also playing for Sunday services at a Long Term Care facility in Camrose for over 12 years. He has also volunteered in many capacities that allow him to use his accounting and finance skills.

Tyler was born at St. Mary's Hospital in 1982. He grew up on the family farm north of Camrose. He began his career in funeral service in 2002 when the Weber family purchased the Hoveland Funeral Home. Tyler lives in Camrose with his wife Andrea and operates Weber Funeral Home with his brother Layne and his father Marvin.

Tyler has previously served on numerous boards of directors in the community. He currently serves as a director for the Conservative Party of Canada Battleriver Crowfoot Electoral District Association and Vice-President of the Alberta Funeral Service Association.

Kirstyn is a partner at Olson + Rau Law which is based out of Camrose and Vegreville but also serves the surrounding rural communities. She has practiced law since 2013 and still loves every minute of it. Kirstyn grew up on a farm just outside of Daysland. She now lives in Camrose with her spouse, Scott.

Kirstyn is committed to community involvement and volunteering and is passionate about learning from each of the organizations she participates in. She believes strongly that awesome communities do not happen by accident, but by the hard work of community-minded people!

John was born and raised in Camrose, and after completing Criminal Justice studies at the Lethbridge College, joined the Camrose Police Service in 2002. After spending periods of time working and supervising teams in the Patrol and Major Crimes Sections, John was promoted to the rank of Inspector where he currently oversees the Operational Support branch of the Police Service. Part of this role has includes some very enjoyable work with his teams and community partners in launching a new school resource curriculum, a wellness committee, and a mental health HUB in the community.

John joined the St. Mary’s Hospital, Camrose Foundation Board in 2019 and has had the pleasure of serving on numerous other boards and committees over the years. John resides in Camrose with his wife, Angela, and their children, and is active coaching youth hockey and baseball and participating in various recreational activities in the community.
