Foundation Board

A Message from St. Mary’s Hospital,
Camrose Foundation Board Chair

As volunteers appointed by the Covenant Health Board, the St. Mary's Hospital, Camrose Foundation Board continues to serve and represent the health care interests of our community. We are very proud of the outstanding service provided by the leadership team, physicians, staff and volunteers of St. Mary’s Hospital. Their commitment, initiatives and achievements ensure that our community receives a quality of health care that meets or surpasses national standards.

We thank you for your financial support as we fund the purchase of new or replacement equipment through your donations to the Foundation. The board is currently deciding upon the next hospital-wide opportunity. Thank you for your continued support and if you might be interested in joining the board, please contact any one of our present members.

I am a partner at Garnett Radchenko MacKay Chartered Professional Accountants in Camrose. I joined the board in 2022, and have been Chair since January 2025. I wanted to find a volunteer or board position to give back to the community I've lived in my whole life in some way. I enjoy seeing the completion and implementation of equipment that the Foundation has secured, and the positive impact it has on patient care and front line staff.

I am John Corbett, a lifelong Camrose resident of over 40 years and currently serving as Chief of Police for the Camrose Police Service, where I’ve been proud to serve for the past 24 years.  I am married and a grateful father of three children.  Outside of work I enjoy staying active in the community by coaching youth sports and taking part in local recreational activities.

I have served on the Community Board and Foundation since 2019 and currently hold the position of Vice-Chair of the Foundation.

I’m passionate about advocating for our local hospital and supporting the incredible staff at St. Mary’s in delivering the best possible care to patients.  Being born and raised in Camrose, I have a strong personal connection to our community and our site, and it is an honour to serve alongside such dedicated board members who share this same commitment.

Lesley Barott has been fortunate enough to have been a part of this friendly and caring community since 2011 as a resident, an employee and a volunteer.  In December of 2024 she chose to be on the board to give back and support health care causes including rural health care, end of life care, healthy aging, and compassionate care.

A large part of her life has been farming and sheep ranching.  Her experience is varied from care homes, schools, retail, and business.  She has recently transitioned to semi retirement and continues to find new adventures.

I have been a member of the Board since January of 2025 and I joined the Board as a way to give back to the health care community of Camrose as I enjoy seeing the impact that our donations and advocacy can have on real world outcomes for staff and patients in the Camrose community.

I think giving back to our community through volunteering is important.  St. Mary's Hospital serves a vital role in the health of our community, and it is an honour to be a director on the board.

I had the pleasure of teaching school for 40 years, from Grade 2-12. I continue to sub at Chester Ronning and Grande Cache, and have added kindergarten and Grade 1 to my experience.  I am currently the newest member, having spent the past year learning the issues and responsibilities.  I am so impressed with the direction and guidance provided by the entire board and St. Mary’s support staff.  It is an honour to be able to be a part of the boards at St. Mary’s.  I have been involved with the Central Zone PCN for the past 10 years, as well as completing a health research certificate through the University of Calgary (PaCER).  I look forward to the opportunity to work with the community of Camrose to help St.  Mary’s continue to provide exceptional service, and even more!

My favorite part about being on the Board is hearing directly from staff and patients about what they believe would make a difference for hospital care and being able to use that information to push for positive change via either an allocation of grant funds or full-throated advocacy, as the case may require. We are proud to preserve the immediate connection between a donor's dollars and the actual local needs of our hospital.

I officially joined the board December 12, 2024.   My Dad was on the board many years ago and always spoke highly of his time serving St. Mary's.  For me, it is a way to give back to the community in which I live and positively impact the quality of life in the Camrose area.
